Second Wednesday is a once a month evening session for beginners to duplicate pairs bridge. It is held in the liberal hall at BR60RZ. Each bridge deal is random, so you tend to do well if you have good cards. Duplicate pairs is by far the most common form of the game nowadays. Duplicate pairs arranges for the same deal to be played at several tables and at the end of the evening compares how you and your partner did with how other pairs did holding the self-same cards. This adds a little paperwork and Second Wednesday is supported so no-one need concern themselves with the associated chores, but can of course learn them with a view to later playing in a club.
Whereas in a normal game memory aids are prohibited, in Second Wednesday players can use bidding guides such as my own crib sheet and there is time after each hand to think a little about other lines in play and defence.
Second Wednesday is hosted: that means you can arrive without a partner and one will be found. BRbridge is associated with the EBU for training but is not itself an EBU club. Your games will not earn you any of the EBU benefits, in particular the free magazine, and will not affect your grade in the National Grading Scheme.
