Headway
Letter From Headway to the Chairman

Our Treasurer and regular volunteer Mr Reg Bowdler has indicated that the bridge club of which you are Chairperson has kindly agreed to run an event in aid of our organisation. We are very grateful to you for this generous sponsorship and I am writing as requested to provide you with some information about us.

We are a local branch of the National Brain Injury Charity, Headway UK. We receive no funding from Headway UK nor any grant funding from any other source and are entirely reliant on services provided by unpaid volunteers and funds raised by our members and their families and contacts such as your own organisation, together with generous donations from time to time from interested members of the public.

We provide information and support to those affected by acquired brain injury. This can range from people injured in road traffics to those affected by brain haemorrhage and other spontaneous illnesses. The effects are life changing and lifelong and can result in severe isolation and distress for those injured and also their family members. Often there is a complete personality change which means the effects on the family are even more profound as in addition to coming to terms with the physical and psychological changes, they are also grieving for the loss of their loved ones.

We run a weekly drop in centre which provides essential social contact for our members and respite for their family and carers and also arrange trips and an annual weekend holiday. In addition we provide signposting services for free welfare benefits advice and support members and their families as needed to obtain required support from statutory agencies.

I attach a Newsletter providing some information about our activities over the last few months. (Select this news item to open the newsletter)

I hope this information is helpful, and once again on behalf of our membership and the committee would like to offer our sincere thanks inadvance for your efforts on our behalf.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me, although I would mention that I will be away on business for the next few days.

Kind regards.
