Bridge at Bramhall Golf Club

Welcome to the web pages for the Bridge Section at Bramhall Golf Club.

Many golfers are also keen bridge players, but you don't need to play golf to enjoy a relaxed and friendly game of bridge at the club, as as non-golfing members have full access to the bridge section and club facilities.

Various duplicate bridge sessions are held throughout the week as detailed on the Information page.

From early autumn to spring, weekly beginners' tuition is available for those wishing to take up or return to bridge, and improvers' tuition for those keen to take their game to a higher level.

Recent results can be viewed by clicking on the Results dates on the right of the page or through the Results item in the Menu on the left. Please feel free to explore the Menu items.

Summer Season 2019

Wednesday Duplicate Pairs competitions will continue throughout the summer months and although this is a time when golf takes priority for many, it is hope that a goodly number of you will turn up on Wednesday evenings to keep your bridge brains ticking over. For further information contact Roew Macdonald.

If there is sufficient interest, it is intended that duplicate sessions will continue on Monday mornings whenever the clubhouse is available. For further information contact Jim Foster.

The summer sessions are an ideal opportunity for improving beginners to become involved in duplicate competition in a relaxed and sociable environment, where help will be available from more experienced players.

Bridge Tuition

Doris and Gil will be recommencing the winter session of their beginners’ and improvers’ bridge classes from Wednesday 12th September until Wednesday12th December. For those willing to stay the course, lessons will continue into the New Year, probably from early January until April (dates to be announced).

Doris will be revisiting and expanding upon the topics already covered for the benefit of last season’s beginners. Anyone wishing to start learning bridge from scratch should contact Doris at doriskirwan@yahoo.co.uk

Gil will be refreshing your memories by working back through last season’s topics with the possibility some new techniques being introduced. Gil may be contacted at gilacol@aol.com

Cost - £40 for the 12/14 week session or £5 per lesson on an ad hoc basis.

Christmas Teams of Four Competition

A successful and enjoyable Teams of Four competition was held on 19th December with Roew and David magically able to calculate a result after partaking of the mulled wine.

Congratulations to the winning team of Pat, Wendy, Frances and Graham who played brilliantly, and to the team of Denise, Gill, Ann and Sheila who snaffled second place in spite of claiming that they performed poorly.

A worthy mention to our two newer members of the group, Claire and Maria, whose performance in respect of bidding, card play and pace of play resulted in most of their boards yielding only small swings.

Thanks must go to Roew and David for organising the event and providing detailed information at the tables to ensure the evening ran smoothly.

President's Weekend Teams of Four Competition

For those gentlemen not able, for one reason or another, to participate in the golf on President’s Weekend, the President very thoughtfully laid on an afternoon of bridge, and what a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon whilst golfers were battling against wind and rain on the course.

A keenly fought competition between four teams of four resulted, rather convincingly, in the honours and wine going to the team of David Joyce, Geoff Humberstone, Ray Williams and Peter Spiller.

Thanks must go to the President for making it happen and for her generous hospitality. Also thanks to Gil Fletcher for his organisational abilities in making the mysteries of the set up and movement run smoothly, and for his efforts in producing an analysis of each hand and a mind blowing scoring matrix.
