The Birches Bridge Club was formed in 2000 in order to enable a couple of teachers in the area to help provide students a venue to play outside their classes.   It started with one afternoon a week for students and then expanded to include Monday evenings for Improvers.   In 2007 the Wednesday afternoon club was inaugurated for those who preferred to play in the afternoon rather than the evening.   Mondays and Wednesdays now allow most conventions, but  Thursdays are restricted to Standard English.  

Duplimated boards with printouts of the hands are used on all three days.  

The club now boasts 90 plus members, all of whom are members of the EBU.
