Here are four really good reasons why you should want to play bridge.

  1. Bridge requires a lot of thinking, as well as problem-solving skills, concentration, and planning ahead to gain a good score.  Unlike a lot of other card games, bridge is a game of both defense and offense.

  2. As we get older, there is cognitive decline which is different in every person but it happens.  Bridge keeps your brain active and stimulated and, when we play with others, the social aspects of the game keep different parts of your brain working whether taking classes or playing. If you want to make more friends, bridge is a game for you.

  3. Bridge is good for our immune systems.  Studies have shown that the area of your brain that is used and stimulated while playing bridge is the same area of the brain that is suspected to stimulate the immune system.

  4. Unlike so many physical games, bridge is a lifelong game.  While you can learn the basics quite easily, mastering the game takes a long time.  This is why so many people play well into their 80s and 90s.

To learn bridge and play this game for a lifetime, here are three ways to learn bridge at home and one suggestion if you would rather take lessons in a classroom venue.

Bridge Games & Lessons

Belfair is a great place to play golf, tennis, bike or do any of the many other opportunities for physical exercise.  Let's not forget the ole noggin though and exercise it as well with games like Bridge! The good news is that there are lots of ways to take advantage of this fun and mentally stimulating game in Belfair especially now that we have the Old Tabby room where men and women have access.  Check the calendar for a schedule of games.  Lessons are planned later in 2021 for those who have been away from bridge for a while and would like to get reacquainted with the game.

Duplicate Bridge for Women
Duplicate bridge is played every Monday in the Clubhouse from 12:15 to 4:00 PM.  Contact Laurel Ludden at 816-718-1950 or lscgolfer@mac.com.

Social Bridge for Women

Mixed Games for Men and Women Together

Mixed Duplicate Sanctioned Games
ACBL Sanctioned Duplicate Bridge is played on each Tuesday of the month at 6:30.  First and third Tuesdays are online via Bridge Base Online (BBO).  Second and Fourth Tuesdays are Face to Face in the Old Tabby room.
Masterpoints are awarded and the cost is $3 per person for Belfair members and $5 per person for guests. Contact Tony Schlegel at 843-815-3011 (tonyaschlegel@gmail.com) or Laurel Ludden at 816-718-1950 (lscgolfer@mac.com).   As this game grows, we will likely create two sections of A level players and B level players.  If you don't care about masterpoints, that's OK.  Just come and enjoy the game.

All of the dates above are subject to change based on holidays when a month has five-game or lesson days, availability of the game/lesson coordinator, or possible clubhouse conflicts with room scheduling.
