| NEW RULES |
A new rule book has been published by the EBU. There are a few changes which will affect us all. These new rules come into effect on August 1st.
here is one....... It will be allowable for defenders to ask their partner if he/she has any cards left in the suit led, if one of them discards. The expression 'having none?' used to be used for this. If it is found that partner did have a card to follow suit, then that card must be substituted and the previously played card becomes a major penalty card.
another rule..... Players must shuffle the cards before returning them to the board. Most players do this anyway, so this shouldn't be a problem.
Penalty cards....everybody knows (I think) that if you have a major penalty card on the table it must be played at the first legal opportunity. Not everybody knows that if your partner has a major penalty card on the table and you have just won a trick, then you MUST NOT LEAD to the next trick until declarer has exercised his/her 'lead rights'. It is best to call the director anyway. This is not a new rule.
