Congratulations to the winner of this year's Individual competition, Chris Kinloch. Taking the best four scores of the six sessions he finished with an excellent average of 59.9% His partners who contributed to this success were Stan Babb, Georgina Bovill, John Glasscock and George Collins. Second was David Lewis with an average score of 56.1%, and third was Stan Babb with an average of 55%. Very well done!
Many thanks to Chris and David for directing and to all participants in what is a most worthwhile and challenging contest. The Individual will resume in October.
There have been several complaints recently about slow play at the club. The Committee discussed this at our April meeting and agreed the following:-
If a pair is consistently slow, directors will give a gentle warning that a board may be removed– explaining that it is only fair to all other players that a steady pace is maintained by all. Some directors will use the clock to help police the speed of play, announcing that no new boards should be started if there is less than 3 minutes to go in the round.
We wish to balance all players enjoyment and not penalise pairs but if a board is taken away, then a penalty may be give and the award an Average+ to the non-offending pair and an average- to the slow pair.
Please do not be upset or offended if you are asked to speed up a bit. Remember the scorer who is often very late leaving the club because one or two tables are still in play when everyone else has left.

Basingstoke has won the Basingstoke Cup against Newbury and ended the long run of Newbury triumphing against us
However, it was a close run thing, as after a strong first half the team, they had some wobbles in the second half and nearly let it slip.
However, the final score was 62-56 giving a 6 IMP win. Phew!! Close in teams of 8.
Congratulations to the team of Andrew & Mary Ferguson, Sean & Colleen Haffey, Sandra Ruffell & Mary Lucas and John Glasscock & Sam Golding.
The EBU have now updated the videos on the new laws. They are very easy viewing and even if you are not a director, they're worth having a look.
