NORTH DEVON CONGRESS 2013

Over eighty guests at the Barnstaple Hotel were joined by about the same number of day visitors to play Swiss Pairs on Friday evening and Saturday and Swiss Teams on the Sunday. Once again the hotel provided a pleasant venue, with excellent service, comfortable accommodation and exceedingly good food and many guests took up the offer of an extra night's dinner bed and breakfast at the hotel.

The congress was organised and hosted by Carol Ritzen and Brenda Martin. Ruth Edmondson worked hard with the technology of scoring while Richard Carter dealt and sorted boards. We have been particularly grateful for Ruth and Brigid's support over the years and realise that it is very much thanks to Ruth's expertise in particular that the scoring and assignments work efficiently and quickly. This year we also congratulate them on winning the pairs.

It was unfortunate that illness this year caused several competitors to withdraw before the congress and one team to leave midway. Our good wishes go to all, and hope for a speedy and complete recovery where appropriate. We hope that all who survived enjoyed the company, the competition and the venue. We look forward to meeting again 14-16 March 2014.
