NORTH DEVON CONGRESS 2016

Numbers were well up this year with many new faces joining old friends to make up 33 tables for the pairs and 36 teams.  As ever the Barnstaple Hotel was a very attractive venue with many staying for a third night. The weekend started with a wine reception and an excellent dinner for the residents followed by three sessions of Swiss Pairs won by Robert Mabley and Alan Biggs from Malcolm & Catherine Boyack. Alison Pollok and Richard Watkins were once again the top local pair. Full results are available on the website results page. Click here to go there.  The prizes were presented by one of our longest supporters, Ann Slee. The congress was organised and hosted by Carol and Linda while Ruth and Richard worked hard with the technology of scoring etc. We are grateful to all who helped in any way, to the hotel staff and to all the players who created such a friendly atmosphere.  

On Sunday Andrew Thompson, Mike Fletcher, Rod Marks & Bill Rowe retained the teams trophy, which they have now won three years in a row.  This year Mike & Enid Hamon, John Vaughan & Susan Gregory were runners up; with the top local team being third placed Nicky Sandom, Chris Bray, Stephen Rafferty and Graham Clark.
We hope that all enjoyed the weekend and we look forward to meeting again next year when the congress will be on the same weekend. (24th to 26th Feb).
