Question
Should a direct raise to 4 of partner's opening weak 2 of a major be alerted?
Answer
Having reviewed the alerting and announcing guidelines I believe the following to be the case:
The opening weak 2 should be announced by the opening bidders partner.
The direct raise to 4 shold not be alerted since the opening bid is natural rather than artifical. Therefore the requirement to alert bids over 3NT if there is an artifical bid on the first round does not apply.
The opposition have the right to question the meaning of the bid at their turn to bid if they need clarification on what the bid means.
