| More Hosts Please! |
Our club is totally unique in that it offers anyone who rocks up to our club a guranteed game.
To enable us to fulfil this valuable commitment we need more volunteer hosts.
We already have a small but commited group of volunteers. We need more to spread the burden.
Identify a Tuesday session in the forthcoming months where you would be able to volunteer and drop a line to our Host Angel

| Who would have thought? |
There is calamity at the top end of the game as world champions have been accused of cheating.
A pattern began to emerge in the way the opening lead was laid. A card laid horizontally meant one thing and a card laid vertically meant another.
Using this method the top pair in the world have been accused of illegally transmitting unauthorised information to partner.
In a way its a wonder that this hasnt been picked up before. But many hours of video evidence has been studied by other top players and the subsequent evidence appears compelling.

| More news from an old friend |

NEW! Mike receives a top award from the Chairman of Berks and Bucks FA for being scrumptious.
He scrubs up well in a suit!
Click on this text to watch the video. Look out for Mikes knees!
I sent an email to Mike Dobson congratulating him on Sunderland surviving the drop this season:-)
He writes 'On a refereeing note got an email yesterday saying I have been awarded the FA Community Award sponsored by McDonalds for "outstanding service to refereeing" which will be held at Madeski Stadium and have to let them have a video beforehand so all in all quite a bit going on'
Very big congratulations from us all! He also says that he is playing twice a week in local bridge clubs.
Lucky clubs is all I can say!

| Galley Miller! |

Paul has kindly volunteered to make sure that we all stay shipshape by overseeing the organisation and victualing in the kitchen.
Naturally we will all still do our own washing up and wiping down as before.

| Chief Host Angel ! |
 |
Our club has always been a great advocate of 'everyone gets a game'. Just turn up and a partner will be found - every time.
It particularily suits people graduating from courses who have yet to find a regular partner and people new to the area who want to try our club (good choice!)
Our lovely Maureen is our Chief Host Angel. Her task is to allocate volunteer hosts to session dates.
She looks a bit shocked here actually:-)

| Hello Stephen! |
 |
A very warm welcome to our new TD. We all know and love Stephen of course and it's not easy this TDing stuff. He handled everything so well on his first night in charge. It didn't help that the centre's WiFi was down but the results were still in the player's boxes by 11pm. Very well done Stephen!

| Announcing this that and the other |
 |
We have all got used to 'announcing' the range of partners opening bid of 1NT. Now the rules have been extended to announcing the range of the opening bid of 2NT. Subsequent transfers and Stayman also require an announcement. Additionally those of us that play 5-card major suit openings, a minor suit opening that could be two cards or fewer should be announced even if it is non-forcing.
