The Club will be open in the afternoon for Rubber Bridge every day except Sunday and Monday
It is with great sadness that the Avenue Bridge Club announces the recent passing of one of its members, Mary Briant. Although we had not seen much of her over the last year as she was battling Parkinson's, Mary had been a regular in all duplicates over many years standing and had on occasion acted as Tournament Director to help cover staff leave. Our sympathy goes to Mary’s friends and family at this time.
The funeral will take place at 12.30pm at Woodvale Crematorium on Thursday June 13th. Please join the family afterwards at Preston Bowls Club, 189 Preston rd, Brighton BN1 6SA where ample parking space is available.
Congratulations to Dave Dickson, Andy Ryder and Mike Allen who held off the challenge of Ollie Powell and Nick Lake to win the competition and therefore retain their title. good news for me as there is no need for a new photograph ! Photo of them all looking so young can be found under GENERAL NEWS
Completed final table can be found under COMPETITIONS.
Congratulations to the Avenue team of Julian Mitchell & Peter Clinch, Mike Allen & Ollie Powell, Andy Ryder & Ken Ford, David Dickson & Vivian Priday. Representing Sussex the Avenue team came a highly commendable second in this prestigious event and will now compete in the grand final.

Many thanks must go to David Green for his sterling efforts in producing the Club Handbook and also the promotional flyer. After some months of hard work the club is now in a position to provide an electronic copy for your use.
A copy can be found under CLUB INFORMATION but you can also click on the title above to gain access.
A great part of this initiative is the intention to increase the numbers of players playing at the club - particularly amongst the less-experienced. Consequently, the Duplicake will be run with an eye on the social aspect of the game - a half-time break to socialise is built in to the timetable. And the Duplicake will be run in two sections to protect both ends of the bridge-playing spectrum from each other, with duplimated boards.
Please see poster on the website which is under GENERALNEWS. You may be able to show your bridge playing friends. As mentioned on the poster, members may well find the Duplicake the ideal opportunity to introduce their kitchen-bridge-playing friends to the club. The more, the merrier!
Please note that the club is closed for rubber on Mondays. There is no club duplicate on Tuesday evening but there is a supervised duplicate session from 7:30pm to 10:15pm followed by discussion, questions or just a social chat in the bar. All sessions have hand records and suggested bidding sequences. These sessions are suitable for students beginners and those wishing to gain experience to join and play at the Avenue Bridge Club.
If you are looking for a partner, new to the area or are just thinking of popping in for a game contact Julian who i'm sure will accommodate you
