With over 120 members AGBC is a very friendly and sociable duplicate bridge club based at the Memorial Hall in Ashley Green, Buckinghamshire.
We play Thursday evenings from 7:15 to 10:00 pm. Please arrive and be seated by 7:05 pm to give the Scorer time to complete the setup. We use the ArcScorer scoring system which allows for the capture of the individual board scores electronically and provides an instant display of the event's result.
If you know you are coming but are struggling timewise, but will be there to start at 7:15 pm, just call the Club on 07856 367236. Play will commence at 7:15 pm promptly after any announcements.
An open invitation has been made by senior members of Hemel Hempstead Bridge Club to local club players who wish to improve their game by adding new bidding techniques and by helping them to improve their card play. It is aimed at competent players who already know the basics but are seeking to improve their game. Help and advice is provided during the play of pre-selected hands. The winter 2018 sessions start on 6 September; full details of the schedule and topics to be covered are shown via the Tuition tab on the menu listing to the left.
Lessons in Bridge, following the English Bridge Union (EBU) “Bridge for All” national learning programme, will commence on 8 October 2018. The programme will be in two parts; the first half between October and December 2018 and the second half between January and March 2019. At the end of the course participants should have the confidence and ability to enter a friendly duplicate bridge competition at a bridge club.
Lessons will be enjoyable and inter-active concentrating upon getting attendees playing cards right from the start. In addition to attendance at weekly lessons participants will be encouraged to "self-teach" by utilising materials and books recommended by the EBU.
The lessons will be given by Derek Connelly (EBU accredited teacher) and Pete Rowling and have the support of local bridge clubs and their members. Local experienced players will be encouraged to attend, to assist/help the participants in the learning programme.
The lessons will be held at Berkhamsted Bowls Club, Broadwater HP4 2AL in central Berkhamsted. The Bowls Club has a thriving bridge section and excellent comfortable warm facilities in well-lit, ideal card playing conditions. There is ample free parking in Canal Fields. The lessons will take place on Monday mornings between 09.30 - 12.15 (commencing 8 October 2018). Additionally there will be an initial informal “get-together” at the end of September. At each session there will be a short break for tea/coffee and biscuits.
To register, or obtain more information, contact Derek Connelly on 01442 890322 or email email@example.com or Pete Rowling 07970 301233.
