Mick's funeral took place on 23rd July. The following eulogy is from Mike Field.
"Manners maketh man" - that was my school motto and it could easily have been Mick Cowey's motto for life.
Bridge is a great game but it does not necessarily breed good manners. And as we all know, when we reach the table of some players there is a little intake of breath. But when we arrived at Mick and Dorothy's table we knew we would be greeted politely and with a smile and a little chat before we played.
Mick was blessed with a natural politeness and was one of those people you always looked forward to chatting with and he was always interested in your point of view.
He and Dorothy were firm believers that playing bridge helped to keep the brain ticking over and they not only played regularly at Ashford and other clubs but would often take bridge holidays.
Mick was a keen student of the game and latterly has taken a director's course and became a well organised director at Ashford Club.
He is a great loss to our club and his local community but we are so pleased that Dorothy is continuing to play and we will continue to embrace her and keep |Mick's memory alive in our hearts.
