History of the Club
History of the Club

Allingham Bridge Club was formed in March 1992 by 17 members of Norman Jackson's Adult Education class for Bridge Improvers in Reigate.  Some advanced funding from our first members, enabled us to acquire enough bridge equipment to get started.  The choice of Monday evenings avoided clashes with other clubs in the immediate area and our membership grew to some 150 in two years.  The number has remained around this number ever since with attendances between 60 and 80 playing duplicate bridge in two movements.
The Club's first venue was the Subud Halls in Allingham Road, Reigate - hence the Club's name.  In November 2014 we moved to our current location in the Holy Family church hall in Yorke Road, Reigate but have retained the name Allingham that has now gained good recognition in bridge circles.
From the start, the Club has placed great store in maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for players of all abilities with overseas bridge holidays, weekends and many other social events alongside regular club bridge evenings.  The steward system ensures that all comers will get a game and visitors are always welcome.  Club evenings include a 15 minute break with tea/coffee and biscuits.
