Allingham Bridge Club was formed in March 1992 by the members of Norman Jackson’s Adult Education class for Bridge Improvers in Reigate.

Fortuitously, the Subud Halls were available on a Monday evening and we were able to secure some generous rental terms for our first year as we sought to build on our initial 17 members to a viable number.  Some advanced funding from our first members, enabled us to acquire enough bridge equipment to get started.  The Subud Halls are in Allingham Road, Reigate.  Hence the name Allingham Bridge Club.  With the exception of an 18 month period, we have remained at the Subud Halls on Monday evenings from inception.

Growing the membership proved to be relatively straight forward as there were many other bridge players in the area and existing Bridge Clubs were full.  Our membership grew to some 150 in two years and has remained around this number ever since with between 18 and 24 tables in play on Club nights in two rooms.  From the start, the Club has placed great store on maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for mixed ability players with bridge holidays and many social events alongside regular bridge.  Club evenings include a 15 minutes break with tea/coffee and biscuits.
