April 2015 - In memory of Colin Band, for many years secretary of, and a leading light in, the Club, it has been decided to sponsor a guide dog puppy through his training. The puppy's name is Isaac - see picture - and we will receive regular updates as to his progress over the next two years. Colin was a supporter of the RNIB, and hopefully this will be a fitting tribute.
Allestree Bridge Club is proud to announce that John Derek Povah was awarded the Dimmie Fleming Award for 2011 and was presented with his certificate on 6th September 2011 at Spondon at the end of the Summer Swiss Team competition. These awards are made annually by the EBU for services to Bridge, and this award to Derek was as a result of Derek's activity in the field of Bridge over many years without thought of personal reward and in particular establishing our Allestree Bridge Club.
The Hall was initially constructed in 1904 as the Allestree Institute and was re-named The Allestree Memorial Hall in 1962. The Institute building, and the land on which it had been built, was purchased in 1957 with money raised by Allestree residents in a Memorial Fund established in remembrance of Allestree villagers who had lost their lives in the Second World War. Having fallen into a poor state of repair, the building underwent major improvement during 2006, with financial assistance from the National Lottery, Allestree Bridge Club, Derby City Council and the Land Fill Environmental Group. Allestree Memorial Hall now provides a very acceptable venue for local Allestree Clubs and Societies, including the Allestree Bridge Club.
