Give us ya money...

In case you hadn't spotted this anywhere, the good old non slippery £5 notes are being withdrawn and will cease to be legal currency from 5th May. Any old £5 notes can not be accepted in payment of table money or subscriptions on or after 23rd April (so that we have time to get them banked before 5th May). Until then, you can give us as many as you like!!!

Sandra Landy

Sandra Landy

It is with the greatest of sadness that the Management Committee reports the untimely passing of Sandra Landy on 4 January 2017. Sandra was one of the greatest players of her time and a star who graced the world bridge stage not only with consistent bridge excellence but also with a warm, friendly and humourful personality. Her achievements were myriad including winning the Women’s European Championships five times between 1975 and 1999, the Venice Cup in 1981 and 1985 and representing England five times in the World Olympiad between 1976 and 1992. Sandra also made important contributions to the governance of the game in England through service on the EBU Board and its Selection Committee and in 2016 she was awarded the EBU Diamond award for her overall contributions to the game.

Sandra was not content, however, with the highest levels of achievement at the table and playing key roles in the governance of the game, as she chose to devote much of her time subsequently to teaching others the joys of the game we all love. There are now literally hundreds of current players, particularly in Sussex, who enjoy the game as a result of the structure and clarity of her teaching. The world of bridge owes her a great debt and it will mourn her passing with great sadness.

Details of the funeral and other arrangements will be published as soon as we have them.
