Trevor`s CHALLENGE

During the official 30 day mourning poeriod in 2017, an English polyglot decided to learn to recite and write the Thai national anthem in toto.

Did I succeed? Sceptics canwere able to come and challenge me to the ultimate test:  To see if I could write the anthem without any help - and without making a mistake. The challengers merely had to pledge a donation to one of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha`s charitable foundations. She is King Bhumibol`s eldest grandchild and the lady who sponsored the bridge Cup competition in October that made the achievements of my Samui bridge pupils possible.

Two years on, the challenge remains open. To show Thais that foreign guests are also keen to ensure the late King's tireless`work for children is never forgotten.

Welcome to Koh Samui
Welcome to the ACES Club

Welcome to Aces Bridge and Chess club, Koh Samui's only bridge club. It's home is in Maenam on the north coast of Koh Samui. Just 8km from the airport. Not only do we teach and play bridge and chess, we also play backgammon and cribbage. We are a family-friendly club formed in 2014.

Trevor, the Club`s Director, also runs a Bridge Academy independently of the club. To encourage and promote the game in schools. Not only in Samui, but throughout Thailand. Bridge scholarships are now being offered at the International School of Samui in Bophut.

The ACES club caters for all standards of players. Novices and aspiring grandmasters. Beginner and improvement courses are available by arrangement.

We welcome people from all countries. The majority of our members are French and Norwegian, but players from about 30 countries have visited the club.

Although the language spoken is English, our British Director is a hyperpolyglot and can provide non English speakers with information in many languages. So please get in contact with him and start enjoying the only bridge and chess club on Koh Samui.

The club has its own equipment and purpose built accommodation. If you wish to bring your own club group to Thailand, note that the club can cater for 28 tables. And, of course, we can put you in touch with hotels offering prefential rates for our visiting players.

MAENAM

For non-players there is a wonderful sandy beach only 125 metres from the club. Changing facilities and towels are available at the club.

The Club is in CHINATOWN, just 50 metres from the island`s famous Chinese Temple. Well worth visiting. This year's Chinese New Year festivities are scheduled for the end of this month  Starting early in the morning (06h30AM) on Friday 27th January with a gathering at the Temple where nearly all the locals - including foreigners - will display their food offerings inside and in front of the impressive and colourful building.

A party not to be missed and lasting several days here in Maenam next to the Club.
