To be released on Wednesday 6 October.  Please start using this as soon as possible.

  • Director notifications when move is possible
  • Additional VP scales
  • New MiniBridge Features

Training

  • Top Up Training (recent new features, including updates to MiniBridge)
  • Advanced training: Multi-session Pairs and Multi-session Teams

Director notifications when move is possible

When a move is possible, directors get a notification.

For Teams and Swiss Pairs, you are notified when all tables have completed the round.

For Howell and Mitchell movements there are two notifications:

  • When a move is possible.
  • When all tables have completed the round.

This is controlled from the Settings window. Each director can choose to get:

  • No notification
  • Just a message (no bell)
  • A message and a bell

Additional VP Scales

The list of VP scales for IMP Teams and IMP Swiss Pairs has one more option - the Australia scale, referred to as "ABF".

This option can be used for matches of 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 or 14 boards.

For details of the ABF scales, please see:

New MiniBridge Features

MiniBridge is a great way to get newcomers started.

Following the first MiniBridge release in v 1.1.0, we have added many options for teachers. These allows you to:

  • Configure it to exactly the version you normally play, or
  • Start with a very simple version, and gradually introduce more as your students gain experience.

We have also added some special effects. We will be adding more soon.

The options are all accessed via Session settings, then MiniBridge settings.

What declarer sees when choosing the contract

Can be set to:

  • See the shape of dummy, or
  • See dummy's cards.

So either as you see below, or with the cards flipped over.

What the leader sees before leading

Can be set to:

  • See the shape of dummy, or
  • See dummy's cards, or
  • Not see dummy

Doubling

Can be set to:

  • The player on lead can double before leading, if they want to (like the image below).
  • No doubles - just make their lead.

MiniBridge Contracts
You can specify the exact set of contracts that players have available.
There are two preset options, or you can specify your own list of contracts.

Preset options

  • All contracts
  • Default contracts, that is:
    • One-level partscore in any suit or notrumps
    • Game in any suit or notrumps
    • Slam in any suit or notrumps
    • Grand slam in any suit or notrumps

Specifying your own options

Specify the contracts using the abbreviations C, D, H, S, N.

You can specify exact contracts, or ranges.

For example, to allow 1NT, two of a suit, 3NT or four of a major specify:

  • 1NT,2C-2S,3NT,4H,4S

Seeing the distribution during the play

You can choose whether to allow players to see the distribution view during the play.

Special effects

Special effects can be enabled or disabled. With special effects enabled:

  • The trick pile in the bottom left hand corner behaves like this.
    • If your side takes a trick the number grows, and is green, then it shrinks and becomes black.
    • If the other side takes a trick, the number grows, and is red, then it shrinks and becomes black.

  • Making a contract and defeating a contract:
    • If you make your contract, you see some fireworks.
    • If you defeat a contract, your side see fireworks.
    • The screenshot below is part of the fireworks display.

.

The rest of the play is exactly as in normal bridge. Scores, movements, and USEBIO/PBN files are provided as in normal bridge sessions.

You can hold inter-club challenge games, award masterpoints, and have teams round robins, etc.

Support issues

Safari: Player may find a better experience is achieved if they use Chrome.

Safari 15 (released 20 September): Some Mac users have experienced audio/video connection problems after upgrading to Safari 15. These issues are resolved in this release.

SSL Certificate error: Users with Apple devices from 2016 or earlier, which have not been updated since 2016, may encounter a message about an expired certificate. This can be solved by upgrading MacOS or IOS to a more recent version. Please contact RealBridge for advice.

Lenovo computers: it seems that some Lenovo computers have an additional requirement for setting permissions for video and sound. If a Lenovo-user has a problem with audio or video, please do write to us.

VPNs: Most VPNs are not compatible with the technology used by RealBridge. Using a VPN will often prevent connection to RealBridge, or interfere with video.

Internet security software: Some "safe browsing" or ad-blocking extensions can interfere with RealBridge. This may prevent connection to RealBridge, interfere with video, or cause players to be repeatedly disconnected or moved to the lobby. If players experience this type of problem, ask them to temporarily disable any extensions of this sort, or to whitelist the RealBridge servers.
